If there ever was a tough subject for the home owner, it's water quality. Maintenance of your water should be simple, and with as few hassles as possible. 

If you would like to prevent:
 

• 1. Destroyed pump seals
• 2. Destroyed Blower Motors
• 3. Destroyed Circuit Boards
• 4. Corroded Control Panels

The methods used here are the same used by the author, every day of the year.... and they work!

The methods contained here are recommended for spas without ozonators or automatic bromine generators.  While there are different methods available to keep your spa clean, this was created with simplicity and normal off the store shelf products in mind.  Virtually everything here is available at Pool & Spa retail outlets, and retail stores such as Home Depot, Lowes, etc. 

• First, let's hit on some "Don't Do" items:

  Never add bromine or chlorine tablets directly to your water, in your skimmer, or "laying on the bottom of the spa". Probably the biggest problem creator for spa equipment is using the skimmer to hold bromine or chlorine tablets.

  Never add anything to your water that you can't live with "forever", or until it is drained

  Never add more than the manufacturers recommended dosage for ANY chemical additive.

  Never add SOAP to your water. It may be "cute" for the kids, but this will cause you more problems than you can imagine.

  Never let the kids or party goers urinate in your spa!

  Don't let anyone use the spa that hasn't showered down before getting in. This is also a major cause of spa water contamination.
